You Must Be 18 Years of Age to Get a Tattoo! NYS Law.

There are only two laws in New York State that concern tattooing.

1) You must be at least 18 years old to get a tattoo. There is NO "Parental Consent" . It is a class B misdemeanor to knowingly tattoo anyone under the age of 18 years, and parents giving consent can be charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

DON'T BE LIED TO...THIS IS THE LAW!

2) New York State mandates the use of Autoclave Sterilization. "Dry Heat Sterilizers" were outlawed many years ago.

There is NO statewide licensing for tattooing in New York.

DON'T BE FOOLED by someone claiming to be State Licensed!

Massage Therapists, Barbers, Hairdressers, and even Nail Techs must be licensed, but, unfortunately Tattoo Shops are not regulated by the State.

BUYER BEWARE!

It is important for anyone contemplating a tattoo to check out the shop and artist before getting their tattoo.

Be sure the shop utilizes single use, autoclaved needles.

Ask to see their Autoclave Sterilizer and Spore Test Certificate. Autoclaves should be Spore Tested regularly.

Ask how long the shop has been in business, if they have been around a few years it's usually a good sign.

How clean is the shop, is it well kept and lighted?

Do the artists have portfolios? Ask to see them.

Ask other people in the area about the shop, a good tattoo shop's reputation can be built on recommendation!

THINK BEFORE YOU INK!

Make sure you go to a reputable tattoo shop, so that your tattoo will be a fun experience that you will never regret!
